the 90's were not that bad, to be honest my childhood was definitely less stessful and complicated than the life I'm living now. First English cartoons on "Cartoon Network", pretending to sing foreign songs such as "We are the champions". Actually I was able to pronounce the ..cos we are the champions! part right. There were also Lego blocks that I could play with for hours.Remember the pain when you stepped on one..AUCH...I'm pretty sure that If I were born few years earlier I would join one of those boys bands, you know, there is always this 5th guy who can't sing, dance and is not really that good looking but he's in the band so gets attention. It was not always rainbows and butterflies and even now when I think back on these times, I feel sorry for myself sometimes. Much as life sucks from time to time I only want to remember the good times that I had, with no sorrows and no regrets. Now here's a song this song that for some purpose reminds me my childhood. I can still picture myself constructing another Lego castle and killing the evil wizard when...snap back to reality...diploma paper won't write itself :)

A moment in history
From the diary of the Time Warden
How to save millions of lives? one would say that by eliminating the source of danger but what if this source is a human being? That was the question that kept ringing in my head just before I approached Adlof Hitler, dictator of Nazi Germany associated with the rise of fascism in Europe, World War II and the Holocaust. Of course he was not in charge yet. There he was finishing his painting, unaware pf my presence. Taking him by surprise would be as easy as pie but I was not going to kill him. As I approached Hitler I pulled a piece of paper form my coat. It was a scholarship. He did not know what to say.I knew that all those years he was trying to study Art in Vienna with no result. Now he was able to graduate and become a famous painter. There was also a letter for him but I decided to let him open the envelope. I already knew what's inside so I decided to let him do it. A local gallery was going to publish his paintings. I was hoping that my work would not go down the drain, it would be so much easier to put a bullet in his head but that just wasn't me. I couldn't kill a man, even a murderer...technically he was not even a murderer yet.
Adolf Hitler that we know about form our history lessons was a mad man that sacrificed millions of lives, including his own men, in the name of his desire. what if he became a painter and never became a dictator. Perhaps someone else would take his place. Someone even worse, if that's even possible.
So many questions, so many answers. One thing is for sure.
Only time will tell what happens next....

Scarface
I think that most people would agree with me that Al Pacino is a remarkable actor. I've seen him in "The Godfather", "Carlito's way" and other movies, but the first time when I said WOW was after watching a movie that became one of my favorite movies ever...."Scarface"......I remember it as it was yesterday. Almost six years ago I was invited by my Polish-American friend to his place. Earlier that day we spent few hours playing basketball so we were exhausted. He offered a cold beer and a good movie. We were really exhausted. He knew the movie already so as soon as we finished our beers he fell asleep. I did not...I got hipnotized by the movie. The plot, soundtrack and the main character, Tony Montana...the movie was genius! Much as I respect Al Pacino for being such a good actor, the person that I truly adore is the main hero of "Scarface". To be honest I learned some of the quotes by heart(especially the final scene), the theme has become my ringtone and the very movie is in my top 10 movies ever......In case you did not have the pleasure to watch "Scarface" here's a short video with the "Push it to the limit" soundtrack....enjoy:D

Just me and my language
Few years ago me and my friends were spending vacation in Spain and France. it was a 2 week trip, during which we visited Paris and Barcelona. As much as I enjoyed Spain(Spanish people and their hospitality),I can't say the same thing about France. I couldn't speak French...actually I still can't....but I tried really hard to communicate at the reception of our motel. I decided to use my English so I politely asked the receptionist to use English. Not only was he offended, but he also suggested that this is his country, I'm the visitor and I should use his language. He didn't even try to switch into a different language....
What has this story got to do with the article in "The Observer"? I'd say a lot. Learning another language not only gives you knowledge about other countries and their culture, but it also makes you life easier and puts you in a good stead. Perhaps it was my fault as I didn't know the language well enough, I did however try to use French. The receptionist was too proud of his own language, country, culture to make an effort. In case of British students' who have the advantage(English as a global language)should not waste their pontential. Perhaps they will never need to use a different language, but by learning only one language, they prevent their own development. I'm glad that I have an opportunity to learn languages:I take pleasure in talking with my foreign friends, understanding what my favorite songs are about, reading books that are hard to find in my own language. I swear, if I ever start behaving like Polish was the only language, go ahead and give me a slap :P
